'Talking Without Speaking'
Talking Without Speaking:
An investigation into communicating the human experience, created in collaboration with Jess Rundell, Julia Sykala, Matt Nickolic, and Chris Batten. The piece explored the human experience of war, examining the aftermath, where the true drama and tragedy begin as the visible and emotional damage must be endured.
Throughout the process of devising movement, we collaborated to shape the narrative structure of various sections, including the solo, ensuring that the dialogue between music and choreography could move, breathe, rise, and fall together. In choreographing the duet, I aimed to express the relationship between two bodies—how they connect and respond to one another through improvised movement, making the communication within the performance more spontaneous and natural.
We also explored how different types of music influenced the relationship between the dancers. In the final section, paint was used to spontaneously create a visual trace in real time, capturing the ever-evolving dialogue between the dancers and the music.
